Can you believe Easter is just around the corner!! You’ve undoubtedly seen the shelves in your local supermarkets filled with chocolate Easter Eggs (some since January!) but we thought we’d give you a bit of a trip down memory lane to where it all began…
…As we’re sure you know Easter is a Christian festival celebrating death and then then resurrection of Jesus Christ – however how does this link to an egg and even chocolate! Well as Christianity rose in Western Europe the egg was adopted as a symbol new life and as such many people began decorating duck and hen eggs at Easter to celebrate. In the 17th and 18th century this moved on to egg shaped toys and eggs filled with gifts and chocolate…then we got to the 19th century where chocolate eggs were introduced by the French and Germans.
As time went on the chocolate egg grew in popularity with Cadbury’s bringing their first Easter Egg to the market in 1875.
Today however their are numerous manufactures of chocolate Easter Eggs bringing them out in all sizes and styles ranging from shell eggs to sugar coated and even filled eggs! What’s your favourite?
